CNY year 2007, wat a boring different one.. looking by comparison of recent years, to be exact many many good o’years ago. It’s the 1st day of CNY and i’m already back in PJ. Since i can remember, CNY is so been looked forward to - starting with those legal firecrackers days, receving ang pows, buddying around with cousins elder or younger, eating together making noise together and gambling ‘entertainment’ with no hard feelings - Never to be seen anymore.. I’ve always have that never wanting to leave Sg. Pelik feeling ( our family always used to be the last to leave, this year, 1st to leave) , even though i still had the not wanting to leave feeling this time around, yet just now it was really time to go..

New Years eve’s was always the most anticipated, where i can be together gather with younger cousin brothers - it’s so warm and so buddy, it still is now, but there’s something really really different already. We used to prepare lunch for grandpa grandma and ask them to come back and enjoy it - by burning 3 joysticks and honour them, then queuing up to plug it onto the frame, no queue this year. It used to be an honoured part of the year and we all will try our best to be there. This year’s eve, thank goodness there are these 3 lil’ angels to be there with me.

They just made my day so much brighter and added much warm and loadsa laughter to my else dull day. It made me realize how much i have missed for not having any younger sister - so please excuse me if i treat gals better sometimes, it’s my curse to care for gals more, call me bias but well u might not understand how it feels for so eagerly wanting to have a lil’ sister to love.

The 2 gals went off after lunch and it’s down to the “大陆仔” to be solo with me, he just made me think back when life is so innocent and fun, dunno much about worries and miseries. From the way he smiles u know tat their world is full of innocence, hope they wouldn’t grow up to know bout how cruel complicated family affairs can turn out and make a mess of brotherly relationship sometimes. Well guess he doesn’t know much yet as all he seems to care now is to burn down the house with all his antics. LOL!

Every year, on the 1st day of CNY, all of us will seat together on the round table from grandma’s days, and have our vegetarian breakfast. Fried soo fen, fu-zok soup and pickled celeries, coming along with a mountain of white rice that you’re not supposed to finish. It’s simple yet always so tasty, is it cuz i’m always hungry or is it cuz it’s eaten with my big family? Anyway, this year it was tasty cuz i’m hungry tat’s for sure.. every year it used to be too packed tat all of us will be squeezing in the table - made me wonder why don’t we get a bigger table?! But now i know why, we don’t need to cuz this year (or probably many years to come), there were only 7 of us - 3 of us, 3 of Uncle Seng, and Aunty Ivy. The 5 brothers, now down to 2. Uncle Peter is in US, he’s the coolest uncle anyone will ever have and he make up to this every other occasion he’s back here, by just being the coolest uncle - and we so do understand and got used to him not on the table, but..

These are the bowls of rice tat we prepared just in case the absentees appeared, not sure it’s for courtesy purpose or tradition purpose to have the bowl representing them even though they are not around. Somehow though, this year, with less congestion, the atmosphere was calm. Remember when grandpa & grandma was still around, we eat in silent mode. Chew also softer and drink soup also no sipping sound, yes it’s like tat but nobody says tat u can’t talk - so usually everybody eat fast and cabut from the table fast. Not today, we ate and we yak and we chatted, whoa.. i prefer it this way.

Time to leave, and just bout that instance, 2 other uncles came back. Personally, it’s really good to see them. No matter wat conflict is going on between the siblings, they are still my uncle and i treat them with my utmost respect. Especially for my uncle who we stayed together when i was still a primary small little dicky, till mid-high school time. I used to see him a lot around, i will never forget tat he buys me lunch with so much meat & vege and tat always fill my then tiny tummy.

He has an ex that is so sexy, hot, pretty. she has a great body and got a smart and classy looks tat frankly did drive my hormones “unstable” a little. And they have slept many nights over in the room tat i’m currently typing all this out. I can still smell her fragrance. That beauty grace made me still remembering her name even though it’s like 10 years ago. Can’t help it, i just hit puberty. They broke up yet he always seems to be so busy, with loadsa architect plans around and tat he hardly has space time to sleep - he is indeed hardworking and he has got his wealth & power comfort now. I’ve heard that he’s gonna shift (shifted?) to a semi-D nearby his office, sad thing is tat we used to stay under 1 roof yet now i can’t even be sure where he is staying currently. The siblings dun communicate, hardly eye contact, yet this made me stucked - i want them as my uncle, i like greeting & wishing them and calling them uncle, i miss prefer my younger days uncle - my uncles when grandma is still around.

Lastly, while we were about to take off and our AhCock was parked inside, need the just arrived to give way, i quote here “做兄弟做到这样子” - at least, they still address pa as 兄弟.

To sign out in a better mood, this is some shots i took from the room when the clock strikes 12 on New Years day. It’s better to stay awake enjoy the fireworks display rather than mumbling over the bang bang noises created by the fireworks. It’s always like this in Sg. Pelik, ever since i remembered.
