Bangkok ~ A City I Didn’t Cock
Posted in Animal, Been There Did It, Movies, Now I Know, Travel on June 27th, 2007Took advantage of AirAsia’s RM9.99/way flight and got my ass to Bangkok. It was an 825am flight and so it was an 430am awakening.

Thailand has an 1 hour lag in timing and we took a 400 BHT taxi to our hotel to check in. The driver was lost, well this usually happens to booking for budget hotels. He got so lost tat he slapped the map of the hotel tat we printed, straight on his dashboard.

And this is when we started to get restless in the Bangkok jam, believe me, if u think KL is terrible, Bangkok is somehow similar, just tat their jam/rush hour is almost ALL the hours. And when the driver made a call to the Hotel and got the direction all right, he keep repeating happily:
Saya Anaconda~! Saya Anaconda, yea yea!
We were seriously blur but allowed him to go on saying it, any idea wat he meant?! I’ve got a list of Thai word tat we’ve encountered, and the situation we were in. We were lost in translation.
A 1.5 hour journey and we reached Diamond City Hotel. Got this booked via www.rates2go.com, after doing much survey they were offering the lowest price for this hotel, USD68 + 22 (extra bed) for 2 nights, 3 person. Pls be aware if u were to book the triple room, it’s meant for 2! WTF ei?!

The hotel was a 3 star, and it was okay for the price we paid. It has some pretty nice deco and serves the purpose – to slut bathe & to sleep.

Location wise, Diamond City Hotel is around 10 minutes walk from the nearest BTS station and around 30 minutes walk from MBK Shopping Complex, our Sg. Wang alike & Siam Paragon, our Suria KLCC alike.
Though walking is strongly discouraged as it could be quite a distance. U are hearing from some1 tat walked this distance and regretted. There are some food stalls around the hotel and 7-eleven is just a few steps from the lobby. No prostitute/lady boy were seen around this hotel – which was boring good, really.
Traveling by taxi in Bangkok is the easiest way, we haven’t been waiting for more than 10 seconds for a taxi to be waved down – there are ample of taxis around. From yellow to pinky, they kinda dominate the amount on the road, and they drive F1 tat squeezes around. Just tat, u’ve gotta bear with they name:

Thanks Mr. Kiti for driving us, ur driving style shud give u a more reflective name of ur skills, probably Mr. Bulldoggy or Mr. Buffaloyze.
Many say tat u haven’t been to Bangkok if u haven’t visit their temple/Palace – which made it our 1st destination for the trip.

The Grand Palace was ok grand, would be great if we have known more bout the history – we would appreciate it better. So in the meantime, we just stick with cam whoring.

The weather was burning and we were melting. This seems real gold, as they are not melting. Would still prefer Charlie’s Chocolate Factory though.

Even it’s in the temple and things should be holy and decent, can’t help but notice the scratches at the “tip of the twin mountain“. Get your hands of the statue!

And then i saw a couple who looks quite Malaysian, posing for quite an amount of time at this same spot. Guess they were lost in movement yet stubborn to ask for direction.

Angkor Wat in Bangkok?!

Nah, just a miniature model – trust me, go get urself a Visa and go to Siam Riep for the real thing.
That’s about for the Grand Temple. Looking at the map, we were spoilt for choices on the next destination. A very warm security approached us with English, which is very pleasing to hear something familiar from the locals.

He was really helpful and can’t stop talking bout where we shall go next, planning out our next itenary. His english was ok, and we could understand it – just tat, we’ve heard bout wat locals with English giving direction, they tend to physcho & brainwash u to a place and u end up paying more than planned, or being dragged to places to chop ur head, pocket tat is.
Nevertheless, we followed his words and he even got us a Tut Tut with 80 BHT to 4 destinations, sounds like a good bargain to us.. well, sort of.

And so we went on the Tut Tut, and damnit they really speed with power and breeze through and squeeze in between like well, speed + powerful + in between = fast pleasure?! But really, they were fast, and made us full of dust.

Our 1st view, a pig statue. Din really know wat it’s all about but if ppl make a statue of something, it must mean something, even though it’s a pig – and so we shud be courteous of it.
We we brought to the Lucky Temple – not sure of the name, and it’s not in google as this temple is not commercialized, this was wat we were told and we believe it as were we the only outsiders in there.
We came across a well-spoken English Thai, introduced to be some1 very close to the King, working for the King and speaks great thing and very passionate of his King and his country. He shared with us the background of this temple, and saying it’s the 3rd temple in Bangkok (now there are 200+ temples), and this lucky temple ain’t open to tour agencies, it’s open to public today as the King will be visiting this temple the next day, and they were doing some preparations.

This is where King Rama IV‘s ashes are, just under the statue. The guy was telling so many great things, and i shall now watch “The King and I” & “Anna & the King” (banned in Thailand for too much misrepresentation of the fact), either 1 of it has a scene of this temple in the movie.

This is the statue with the exact proportion of King Rama IV, with all his greatness and majesty, he is a small size guy, it would be around the height of my nipples – which again proves sizes really doesn’t matter.

Another round of briefing on where we shall get diamond etc.. He said tat Poh Kong (yes he said this name) gets their stock from this place – Pan’ Siam House of Factory. He suggested tat we could purchase some and take in back here and sell to Poh Kong, and get a handsome profit from it – something like an investment. Well, we were not allowed to think of tat, by our own financial means.
The rest of day was ruined by huge downpours. And Tut Tut is useless in this condition.
Just 1 thing b4 moving on to the next Bangkok post, dogs here are different. They don’t really seem interested in biting u, more interested in the food u are eating.. and they are not shy to express themselves tat they want wat’s in ur hand..
