When Uppsala is Still Short of Rooms
Posted in Been There Did It, General on August 29th, 2008And so the new semester has just started. Getting back to life in Uppsala, continuing checking swedish guys ppl out.. classes resumed this week, some other courses starts on the 1st of September. Whichever it is, students being newbies or oldbies, are flocking back hard on the city.. and i suddenly feel tat the ‘humanly views’ here are getting much nicer.

It gave me good and somehow, weird reminiscing of my 1st time here almost exactly 1 year ago. I totally understand the feeling of those tat just arrived. Was walking to V-Dala student nation to be their member. On the way, 2 Bangladeshi, pulling their trolley luggage, approached me. Offered a handshake and said tat, it’s their 1st day in Uppsala and they need to find a place to stay, asking for some suggestions. They even tried the hotels and youth hostels yet it’s the week of many conventions, even the hotels are out of places. I totally felt for them yet there’s nothing much i could do. I really felt for them, it was me, the same time last year. So pls, really believe it when the university prospectus says that: “Make sure u have accommodation pre-arranged prior to coming to Uppsala, else choose not to come” – pls pls, good uppsala bounded ppl, take this seriously. Cuz Uppsala city ain’t like Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, where u have the comfort of sleeping on nice broad couches, and steal their lounge’s wireless internet access.

And so, now i’m a V-Dalaian. They made me feel belonged when i’m in the nation’s building. Could even try out working a little for the fun and experience of it, will see how it goes. Yet, i still feel pretty upset to leave Snerikes, though i wasn’t active with them apart from a few hops to their pub, i’ve gotta secure my room with V-Dala. And pls don’t remind me on my torrid 1st day in Uppsala last year, in regards to the “promised” accommodation.

U can easily tell who are new when u reach a junction, and ppl will take out maps, looking hard and focus, then lifting their head up, scratch their brains a bit, lick their lips a bit, and continue to wat they hope is the right direction. It’s nice to see new ppl in new places being confusingly happy and happily independent. I’ve been through tat and it’s a nice little process of getting to know Uppsala.
Anyway, 1st week back here almost coming to another weekend. 1st week of class is pretty motivated (as usual la, but the flame will eventually start to fade i’m sure :p), applied for my swedish residence permit extension, switched student nation, caught up with some SFI friends, stocked up my underwear supply, and most importantly extended the contract of my little room. And i do mean my sweet warm little room.

I missed sleeping here, it makes me feel roomly.. Just this time around, there is another major increase of influx in Indians, Pakistani and Bangladeshi in this corridor. Well, now we call this place “Little India”.
Things are getting pretty settled now, though the wind has been pretty crazy these few days. Ah, and i bought a tray of 30 eggs today, and i would very willingly wanna share my eggs.
ps: Those without a room in Uppsala yet, this blog post has no intentional wat so ever to make u feel even more shittier.
ps2: I’ve finally met a fellow Malaysian in Uppsala after wat, more than 1 year! Penang mari, got asam laksa smell and FKT look.
